It sounds like something different, which this movie should have been if it wanted to recapture an audience. The movie blatantly sets up a sequel, but whether or not that will come to fruition is up in the air at this time. The problem is that a retro-sequel can end up being more pathetic than actually starting over from scratch. Reboots are garbage, so let's revitalize. I guess we're going to get hit with more of these. Throughout the film the cast does its thing, re-making Independence Day. but better than going backward on the part of Mr. Will Smith does not return, opting to appear in Suicide Squad. Jeff Goldblum also returns, does his thing, and collects his check. Bill Pullman returns as the ex-President, but actually takes up the crazed Randy Quaid character. The beats are the same as the first film and what is new happens to be well worn cliches from films such as Pearl Harbor. The film is pure paint by numbers and that philosophy can work when you add something interesting or at least make an effort. Throw in a McGuffin so that we have a way to set up another sequel and you're done.
Aliens, angry that we beat them in the first film, show up. Plus, there seems to be to much copy and paste going on with this one anyway. I was thinking about doing a copy and paste from my view of the first film, but why go to the effort. The plot isn't going to take much to describe.Honestly, if you've seen the first film then you have seen this one. Why we didn't get a sequel until now is a mystery to me. A film that could have delivered a sequel decades before now is Independence Day, a film that wasn't the greatest but it did deliver some summer popcorn entertainment. Star Wars is back with a vengeance, Indiana Jones is on his way, Alien, Blade Runner, Jurassic World and others have taken franchise stagnant for a decade or more and revived them not with a reboot, but a sequel that continues the long dead story. The special effects, photography and some shots of the film are beautiful and look even more superb on a high definition screen, while others are tense, and although the film is completely out of touch with reality, it has fun destroying it.Retro-sequel seems to have become all the rage lately. The visual spectacle, if you can call it that, is grand, colossal and epic and deserves to be seen on an IMAX screen. Turn off your sense of reality, enter the world of fantasy and see the Earth being devastated, once again and don't look for anything realistic, after all, we never suffered from an invasion of aliens to know what it would really be like, do you agree? In addition to the main actors, I need to give an honorable mention to the supporting actors, who also had their moments of glory in the film, such as the young Travis Butt e FromObia Oparei de Game of Thrones. If the first movie impressed by destroying the White House, Independence Day: The Resurgence left Earth on the brink of collapse and total destruction. Throughout the film, several hints made it clear that Earth (or other planets) will have to suffer a little more with the epic destruction that the film presents us with. The characters from the first film continue to play important roles in the sequel, but it is the trio of new protagonists, made up of Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – The Finale), the beautiful Maika monroe (Current of Evil) and Jessie Usher (When the Game is High) who sets the tone for the film, which is not very different from the first, so here's a tip, if you're a fan of Independence Day, will not be disappointed with the second.Īnd speaking of second, get ready for a sequel. The absence of Will Smith, star of the first film, is felt right from the start, and serves as a lever to get the film started, but soon the trio of new protagonists makes us forget about Captain Steven Hiller, Will's character.
Independence Day: The Resurgence uses the same formula form as the first film, only on a larger scale, and that's beautiful to see.
